Theatre des Modes Fashion Show

Randehansonallsm_2

Back in January,  Catherine Moore posted an invitation on her blog to artists who might want to join her in creating a Toy Theatre based on Marie Antoinette.  This sounded like a wonderful project, and I jumped at the chance to sign up.  Well, the final reveal came this week.

Aboce is my entry, made from cigar boxes, collage elements, and a wonderful little Shackman doll.

Below is the link to see all the Theatres in one slide show.  There is a total of 22 artists that participated in this project.  I hope you will enjoy the show.  Thank you Catherine ,for this wonderful opportunity.  Theatre des Modes

Paperwhimsy on the Cover!!!!

Ssgallerysummer08

I am so excited to be on the cover of the new Somerset Studio Gallery issue.  And they have selected some canvases that I used Paperwhimsy images.  There are two more canvases inside with the ones above in a spotlight feature.  I have never thought my artwork was "cover material", so I feel especially blessed by this honor.   And of course it didn't hurt that I used some great images.  :-)

Theatre des Modes

Mariesm

Theatre des Modes is a wonderful project organize by Catherine Moore.  At the end of May all the artists who joined in on this project will unveil their toy theatres.

This has been a fun, but time consuming project.  I still have several elements to complete, and all the finishing touches.  I'm afraid I haven't had a lot of extra time to blog lately, as most of my spare minutes have been spent finding and creating elements for this project.

As I mentioned, at the end of the month we will reveal our theatres, and Catherine will have Fashion Show.  So watch for all the amazing works.  I'll let you when when you can see the collection.

Artfull Blogging

I was really excited when I was asked to submit some images from my blog for this publication.  I couldn't imagine how they could possibly do any kind of layout from my work, since I had seen so many with very artsy photos and artwork.  Well, was I surprised when I finally saw the finished layout.   They did a wonderful job, as they did with all the other blogs featured in this issue.  I am very honored to be included with so many other talented artists and bloggers.

Altered Couture Summer 2008

Ac1

Ac2

Ac3

I was fortunate to have a few more altered pieces published in the upcoming Stampington Altered Couture.  I never knew how much I would love altering thrift store finds.  I had also found some great graphic fabric and some with a postcard print.  And as always, I added my torn antique lace tablecloth.  I know I don't look at the clothes in the thrift store quite the same way as I used to.  I'm even considering altering some of my own clothes next.  Maybe start with one of those old T-shirts that has paint all over it?

Adirondack Color Washes And Moon Glow Mists

Purplegirlfrsm

I have been having so much fun lately trying new techniques, I forgot to post a few on my blog.  Here is a collage made with a background I created using Adirondack Color Washes and Moon Glow Mists.  Below are some of the other backgrounds created with the same technique, waiting to be used.

A Few Easter Decorations

Allthreesm

Pulltoysm

Here are few Easter decorations I made for PaperWhimsy.  I almost forgot I hadn't posted these pics here, since we showed them in the February Newsletter.  I really had never done anything like these decorations, so it was a bit of challenge.  But I found I really enjoyed working with all the frou-frou and glitter.  :-)

I hope you all will have a very blessed Easter holiday.

A Little Felted Brooch

Redflowerfrsm

After a few mishaps, I finished my first felted brooch.  And in order to draw attention away from the lopsided flower, I added a few leaves, a ribbon, and some lace.  :-)  The background is a piece of muslin I dyed with Adirondack color washes.

A Little Felting and a Little Fabric

Rustyframefr

Just a little piece I finished for Paperwhimsy.  Using roving and fancy fibers for background and a fabric image.

I recently had a bad allergic reaction to some new medication, and haven't been able to create as much as I'd like to.  And now I'm trying to catch to up on all the stuff that gets behind.  :-)  Hopefully I will be back on track soon.

A Little More Felting

Littlenestsm_2

First I want to thank all of you that left such nice comments.  I will get back to you soon.
This is another little fabric collage that I incorporated a little bit of needle felting.  First I used the hand felter to attach the houndstooth fabric to the brown felt.  This is a great way to attach fabric without having to sew by hand or machine. I also made the little nest using the hand felter.  First I cut a small circle of felt, laid some brown roving on it, and felted.  Then I laid several different fibers around the edge of the circle.  Here is where you can really play.  I used different colors of brown, and even some eyelash fibers.  I felted these fibers very lightly, and then felted more in the center to create a tighter felted area for the glass bead eggs.  This felting will probably find it's way into a lot of my fabric collages.  Have you tried it?  I'd love to hear and see what you are doing!

A New Year, A New Passion

Firsttryfr_2

It was bound to happen.  Someone mentions felting, and someone else asks questions, and before I knew it, I was caught up in the hand felting craft.  When I first started doing my fabric collages, I soon realized something was missing.  I wasn't sure what it was, but had been looking for several months.  As soon as I picked up the hand felter, and punched through my first wool fabric, and attached more fabrics and fibers, I knew this was what had been missing.
Now, this is just my first try, so bare with me while I learn a few new tricks.   I just pulled out a scrap of wool and few fibers.  Not particularly trying to make a coordinated art piece.  But I wanted to show what I was able to create, even before I read the directions.  OK, now to find that fabric I tucked away.

Happy Holidays to Everyone

Giftfr2

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Have you tried the new Grungeboard yet??

Grungeboard

I've just started playing with this new material.  I decided to use a faux rust paint technique on the grungeboard from the elements pack.  I have also used a new canvas background, both products from Paperwhimsy
